About Hushfield

Founded in 1997 on the Rotterdamseweg in Delft, Hushfield Acoustics measures how materials, machines and products behave as sound sources and as sound barriers. Our reports are used in CE declarations, building compliance files, tender submissions and product development across the Benelux and beyond.

The laboratory runs two coupled reverberation rooms and a semi-anechoic chamber, along with an impact-sound test floor and a fully equipped workshop for building specimen frames. Nineteen people work here; nine of them are acoustic engineers.

The principal tests are sound absorption, airborne sound transmission loss, impact sound pressure, sound power and sound pressure at operator position. Whether the specimen is a ceiling tile, a heat pump, an office pod or a hairdryer, the procedure is the same: measure to the standard, report what the instruments recorded, and state the uncertainty.

What an accredited report actually means

An accredited report is not merely a number on headed paper. It means the method is fixed by an international standard, the chamber has been qualified against that standard, the instrument chain is calibrated and traceable, and an external assessor has audited all of it. It is what allows a specifier in another country to trust a figure they did not watch being measured.

Hushfield is accredited by the Dutch Accreditation Council (RvA) under registration L-091. The current scope is published on our accreditation page and is worth reading before you order — a test outside the scope can still be run, but the report cannot carry the accreditation mark.

Test Methods

Six methods cover almost everything that comes through the goods door. Each links to the specimen requirements, because the specimen — not the chamber — is what usually delays a test.

Test Note 14 — Why Your Panel Measured Lower Than The Data Sheet

Mounting condition changes absorption more than material does. A panel measured directly against the floor, on a 200 mm plenum, or with an air gap behind it will give three different curves from the same product — and all three are correct measurements of different systems.

We do not publish client names — test results are confidential and quite often commercially sensitive. What we can describe is the kind of organisation the reports go to.
